No actual Jet Ski experience is necessary as we give you complete instructions and ensure you are ready to go before you embark on your adventure. However all drivers must know their obligations under Maritime Law ie Collision Avoidance plus Speed Limits. All jet ski hires are limited to Roys Bay and the hirer/driver must 21 years or older.

Jet Skiing is the ultimate lake experience, an awesome way to get out and enjoy the water - fun, scenery, freedom and adrenaline are all on offer.

Driving Age

The minimum age to drive our Jet Skis alone is 21 years. We do have options for drivers over 18 on our guided tours.

Your hire period is for 20 minutes Please allow 30 minutes for the experience as you do need to go through a safety briefing.

We only run 1 Jet Ski for hire at any one time. Each of our Jet Skis have a maximum capacity of 2 people and a maximum combined weight of 200kgs.

We provide:

  • All safety equipment and up to 2 life jackets
  • Operation instructions
  • Maritime Law overview
  • Storage for smaller items
  • Latest Jet Skis
  • GPS tracking of the Jet Ski


  • All drivers/hirers must be 21 years or older
  • The Jet Ski may not be beached, nor may passengers etc be swapped during the rental period

What to bring

  • Credit card and ID for insurance and bond
  • Sunglasses (recommended all year round)
  • Cameras (especially phones), as there will be opportunities for photos - however all electronics are carried at your own risk  
  • Clothing that can get wet and suitable for the weather (A windbreaker or waterproof jacket is recommended on cooler days) - when in doubt, please bring extra layers

If there is no availability online and that is the only time you can go, please join the waitlist or get in touch by email or phone and we will do our best to try and let you know of any cancellations or if we can accommodate in any other way.


Do I need a Jet Ski licence?

No Jet Ski licence nor experience is necessary as your will be briefed on the laws and instructions before you head out, however the hirer/driver must have a valid drivers licence and know all Maritime Laws; ie Collision Avoidance and Speed Limits.

How old do I have to be to drive?

Must be 21 years old to rent/drive (ID is required upon arrival), a passenger can be younger than 21 but must be able to hold on safely behind the driver.

Can I swap drivers and passengers during my hire?

Our jet ski are only able to be used by the hirer. You cannot swap drivers/passengers through out the rental process.

Where can I go during my rental?

Our Jet Ski rentals are limited to a 3km area in Roys Bay of Wanaka. This gives you the ability to play around but not explore Lake Wanaka. The Jet Skis are GPS monitored to this area and will automatically lose power and speed if you leave this area. The Jet Skis also may not be beached during the rental period.

How many people can go on the Jet Ski?

Our Jet Skis comfortably seats 1 - 2 adults, with a max capacity of 200kgs. 1 adult and 1 child are permitted to go out together but the child must sit behind the adult for safety reasons. Highly recommend taking one ski per person if you’re not prepared to get wet. Skis are less stable with an additional passenger.

What do I need to wear/bring with me?

We suggest you wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. Be prepared for windchill so wear long sleeves and be prepared to get your feet wet. Remember to wear sunscreen. We also recommend water and a towel for the rental in case you end up going for a swim.

Can I bring a camera?

Yes you can bring a camera, The jet ski will have a waterproof pocket to store some belongings such as a camera or phone, we can store other valuables in a secure box in the Lakeland trailer.
