Lakeland Wanaka’s self-guided jet ski tours provide a safe option to explore the southern end of Lake Wanaka from Glendhu Bay, Stevenson’s Arm or even Mou Waho Island. Come alone, with your partner, family or group of friends and discover the stunning bays, hidden islands and alpine scenery of Lake Wanaka. Lakeland’s self-guided jet ski tours is great for both our locals looking to add some excitement to their day, or holiday makers that are wanting to explore in an exciting way. All self-guided jet ski tours will departure as part of our guided tours, however once the tour has reached Ruby Island (approx. 3kms) you are given the choice to explore Lake Wanaka freely yourself, or continue as part of our tour until you decide to explore on your own.

All self-guided jet ski tours will departure as part of our guided tours, however once the tour has reached Ruby Island (approx. 3kms) you are given the choice to explore Lake Wanaka freely yourself, or continue as part of our tour until you decide to explore by yourself.
All jet ski hirers will need to demonstrate jet ski knowledge and safety, completing an online full safety briefing and sign our hire agreements. Jet ski experience is required to hire our jet skis as they come on a trailer so launching isrequired. If you are a first time jet skier please see our jet ski tour options.
3.5 hour self-guided tour $499
The minimum age to drive and hire our Jet Skis is 25 years. Drivers/passengers may not be changed throughout the hire

Your hire period is for a total of 3.5 hours, the first 15 minutes will be following our guided tours to ensure your jet ski experience and operational skills.
Each of our Jet Skis have a maximum capacity of 2 people and a maximum combined weight of 230kgs. These passengers cannot be changed during the hire.

To hire and drive our self-guided jet skis you must be 25 years or older. However if you are between 18 and 25 you are able to drive a jet ski on our guided tour.
We suggest you wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. Be prepared for windchill so wear long sleeves and be prepared to get your feet wet. Remember to wear sunscreen. We also recommend water and a towel for the self-guided tours in case you feel like a swim.
Our jetski can take a maximum of two people with a maximum combined weight limit of 200kgs. You are unable to swap people on our self-guide jet ski tours.
Our recommended minimum age is 8 years old, the passenger must be able to hold on by themselves behind the driver.
Yes, experience is required for the self-guided jet ski tours. You will also be required to complete a 30 minute online training module prior to your hire. If you are a first time jet ski rider or have little experience please see our jetski tour options where no experience is required. If our guides/instructors deem you to not having sufficient experience you will be added to the guided jet ski tour only with no refund available.
Yes you can bring a camera, our jet skis have a waterproof pocket to store some belongings such as a camera or phone, we can also store other belongings such as keys or a bag in a secure box in the Lakeland trailer.
Our self-guided jet ski tours are only able to be used by a maximum of 2 people; both these people must undergo the online training and safety briefing. You may swap around who is driver and who is the passenger however you cannot swap drivers/passengers completely during the rental.
Lake Wanaka has many beautiful locations to visit including Ruby Island, Mou Waho or Stevenson’s arm. We have developed a tour map with suggested locations for you to choose from including suitable beachesfor a picnic or swim etc. Our jet ski’s are GPS tracked and have an operating limit that stops past Mou Waho Island or on any river. Your ski will automatically lose power if you extend past these areas.
No, for safety reasons and courteous behavior we do not offer freedom rentals; only guided or self-guided jet ski tours. We do not want hirers wanting to play/hoon around the Wanaka waterfront annoying other water user, therefore we have designed our tours to focus on exploring Lake Wanaka not creating congestion in Roy’s Bay.
